The Eureka Springs City Council approved the fire department’s bylaws Monday night, but the decision didn’t come without fierce debate.

Alderwoman Kristi Kendrick opened the discussion by reminding the council of her motion on Feb. 13 to delete a section of city code requiring the city to approve the bylaws. At its Feb. 13 meeting, the council tabled making a decision on the bylaws until city attorney Tim Weaver could give his input. Kendrick said Monday night she didn’t want to approve the bylaws because city departments don’t need bylaws.
