At the last meeting of the year, county leaders passed a resolution encouraging each to be ‘civil towards one other.’

The Sumner County Civility Code was passed by a vote of 13 to 4, with 4 abstaining votes.

The resolution was proposed by Com. Deanne DeWitt. It detailed promises of commissioners to conduct, as said, “all business and interactions at the highest levels of civility and cooperation.” Leading by example; actively listening; respecting opinions; and more are listed.

“I think none of us would disagree that there is a lack of civility all around us, so I believe that we as a commission are in a perfect position to stand for what is right,” DeWitt said.
