Some University of Virginia faculty members are calling foul after the Board of Visitors extended the term of the faculty representative without consulting professors.
In June, the school’s governing board extended 2017-2018 representative Mimi Riley’s term until June 30, 2019. Previously, the board had selected the immediate past chair of UVa’s Faculty Senate to serve a one-year term. The issue became an internal battle at the senate’s Sept. 18 meeting over the limits of the board’s power and the relationship the senate should have with the board.
